ENROUSH's Answer: About arsenic, lead and metals in tampons

Dear woman, first of all, we want to confirm once again the promise we made you from the very beginning: with ENROUSH, you are safe!

Maybe you've heard the news, maybe you've seen the news on social media... The results of recent studies are worrying, and unfortunately reflect the reality for millions of women who use conventional menstrual products. But NOT for women in the Enroush community!

Our mission has been from the beginning to offer you safe products that do not endanger your health. That's why today we want to talk about everything researchers have discovered, the danger of toxic metals in regular tampons, and what steps we've taken to make sure we're giving you 100% healthy care!

Arsenic, lead and other toxic metals found in tampons: the world's first study on the subject

This is the latest study published on the tampons that billions of women use month after month during menstruation. It is available HERE , and we invite you to read it too.

We are almost 4 billion women on earth, and about 52% to 86% use tampons during menstruation according to statistics, so it is especially important to know what these products contain that end up in our bodies every month.

So a team of researchers from 4 renowned universities in California, New York and Michigan, measured for the first time the level of lead, arsenic, nickel, mercury, cadmium, copper and other toxic metals in tampons.

They found that non-organic tampons contained higher amounts of lead and organic tampons contained more arsenic. And the quantities of the other metals discovered vary depending on the brand, but also on the markets on which they are traded (Europe, Great Britain or the USA). But the conclusion is clear: all tampons evaluated were contaminated, and such compounds entering the body can endanger women's health.

About the metals found in certain tampons

The study raises the alarm: we need information, accountability and safe alternatives

Revolting, but also encouraging - that's how we would describe the result obtained from the measurements.

Outrageous, because it confirms that countless dangerous substances are hidden in tampons on the market without our knowledge, which can expose us to serious health risks. Substances that can be absorbed into our body by the vaginal tissue, much more permeable than other parts of the body, and can cause hormonal imbalances or problems with the nervous and cardiovascular systems.

Outrageous, because in almost 100 years since the first tampon was invented in 1931, no study has been done on the content of metals and metalloids in tampons - only a few measurements indicating the presence of dioxin, phthalates, fragrances, compounds volatile organic compounds and other harmful chemicals. Only now, in July 2024, was the first paper published in which researchers measured the amounts of 16 hazardous metals in 30 tampons.

Outrageous because all these metals were found in all tampons examined, and researchers say that for metals like lead, there is no "safe" level of exposure.

But also encouraging, because at least now we KNOW. Women are finally aware of the risks they are exposed to and the acute need to be informed, to know exactly what is in the tampons they use. The world is now discussing and sounding the alarm about the need for legal regulation of intimate hygiene products, and that in itself is a step forward for women's health.
